KEENE APPOINTED TO INFRASTRUCTURE CONFERENCE COMMITTEE
Chico - Assemblyman Rick Keene, R-Chico,
announced his appointment by Assembly Speaker Fabian Nuñez to
the Infrastructure Conference Committee. The committee will
closely examine the $25.2 billion infrastructure bonds the
governor and others recently proposed to go on the June
ballot.
“California’s water and highway
infrastructure needs are real. Our levees are at risk; our
roads are congested and crumbling. I am pleased to have the
opportunity to work to ensure that what ever infrastructure
money that is allocated goes towards actual construction,”
said Keene.
Repairing levees and protecting against
flooding will be a major focus of the committee. Throughout
the state there exists critical erosion levee sites that put
more than half a million people, two million acres of
cultivated land and approximately 200,000 structures stand
immediately in harm’s way.
In addition to fixing the structural
deficiencies, the committee hopes to improve emergency
response and update the state’s assessment of more than
1,600 miles of aging levees and discuss building new water
storage.
Assemblyman Keene currently serves as the
Vice-Chair of the Assembly Budget Committee, and sits on the
Budget Conference, Natural Resources, and Utilities and
Commerce Committees.
Keene represents the 3rd
Assembly District, including Lassen, Nevada, Plumas, Sierra,
and Yuba Counties, and Butte and Placer Counties.
